The Reason Why I Journal: Why It Matters and How to Begin
Being a mom is AMAZING! But it’s also a struggle. Which as moms we know all too well. Between sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and adjusting to life with a newborn, it’s easy to lose track of your own thoughts and emotions. Because of this, I needed an outlet. Journaling is such a simple yet powerful way to help you process this time of your life, capture precious memories with your little one and your growing family, and nurture your mental well-being. All that aside. I wanted to come back sometime down the road and see the path I took to get to the me that I become. I know I can't be the only one… right?
Why Moms Should Journal
Emotional Release – Writing down your feelings provides a safe space to let go of worries, frustrations, or fears that naturally come with motherhood. This was a BIG factor for me, I was the MOST anxious I had ever been with this last pregnancy.
Preserve Memories – Babies grow and change so quickly. Journaling allows you to record milestones, sweet little moments, and reflections you’ll treasure forever. Time just flies! This part helps me to be the most present by seeing how much he's changed
Self-Care Practice – Even just five minutes a day gives you time to check in with yourself and prioritize your mental health. Mom’s we are still someone outside of someone's mom and wife. This is time to discover or re-discover who you are now.
Bonding Through Reflection – Journaling about your journey can deepen your connection with your baby as you see your story unfold on paper.
How to Start Journaling as a Mom
Choose a Guided Journal – If you’re new to journaling, prompts can help you get started. Nurture and Adorns Self-Care Journal for Moms is designed specifically for moms, with thoughtful questions and space for both daily reflections and milestone notes. It includes options for you to choose for each prompt so you don't get stuck and there are no dates, so there's no stress about missing a day.
Set Aside Small Moments – Journaling doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Keep your journal nearby and write for just a few minutes during nap time or while sipping your morning coffee. For me I do this at night because I like to write the special things that happened that day. Like something funny my son said, or a cute moment like reminding myself that when my son takes his naps he puts his hand on my cheek before falling asleep. I also like pictures, pictures are such a priceless and timeless treasure. I have a polaroid hi-print however there are much cheaper options on Amazon which I'll link here. OR if you are using your journal digitally then you can simply just drag and drop!
Be Honest and Gentle With Yourself – There’s no “right” way to journal. Write freely, doodle, or jot down one sentence a day—what matters is that it’s real and meaningful to you.
Make It Part of Your Keepsake Collection – Journals become family treasures. Pairing your written reflections with tangible keepsakes makes your motherhood journey even more meaningful.
