How to Care for Your Keepsake

Because your memories deserve to last a lifetime.

Your breastmilk keepsake is more than just jewelry—it's a precious piece of your motherhood journey, filled with love, sacrifice, and connection. To help it last for years to come, here are some easy tips to keep it looking beautiful and protected.

Cleaning Your Keepsake

Gently wipe your keepsake with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, or oils from the skin. Avoid using any cleaning agents, jewelry cleaners, or water—these can damage the resin and the metal over time. Keep Away from Perfume & Chemicals

Perfumes, lotions, hair sprays, and cleaning products contain chemicals that can react with the materials in your keepsake. It’s best to put on your keepsake after applying products and avoid exposing it to anything harsh.

Remove Before Bathing or Swimming

Water—especially chlorinated or salt water—can dull or damage your keepsake. Always take it off before bathing, showering, or swimming to preserve both the resin and the metal.

Take It Off Before Working Out

Sweat and friction from exercise can cause premature wear. Remove your keepsake before working out, especially if it's a ring or necklace that moves around a lot during activity.

Don’t Sleep in Your Jewelry

It may be tempting to keep it on all the time, but sleeping in your keepsake can lead to tangling, breakage, or small scratches. Taking it off before bed helps preserve its shape and shine.

Store It Safely

When you're not wearing your keepsake, store it in a closed jewelry box or soft pouch. To go the extra mile, you can add an anti-tarnish strip inside the pouch or box—these are available on Amazon for a few dollars and help protect the metal from oxidation.

A Note About Gold-Plated & Rose Gold-Plated Keepsakes

If your keepsake is gold-plated or rose gold-plated, please be aware that these finishes are not solid gold. Over time—and especially with regular wear—the plating may fade, rub off, or change color, revealing the base metal underneath. This is a normal characteristic of plated jewelry, not a flaw.

To extend the life of the plating:

  • Follow all care tips listed above

  • Avoid constant friction (such as stacking rings or wearing next to other metals)

  • Store separately from other jewelry pieces

If you're looking for a longer-lasting finish, you might consider investing in solid gold options, which are naturally more durable and resistant to wear.

A Few Extra Tips:

  • Avoid direct sunlight or high heat for long periods—it can affect the color of the resin over time.

  • Be mindful with rings when washing your hands—water and soap can sneak in and cause long-term damage.
